With an incredible couple and a wedding party as big as Sydney + Matt’s, you have two things… AMAZING friends/family on both sides –and- a lot of help for me at the girls’ getting-ready house {thank you ladies, by the way!}.
I arrived at Sydney’s parents house to a ton of gorgeousness to photograph, and a bride as cool as a cucumber. Writing her vows when I walked in, the light behind Sydney was a marvel, and, so their journey of wedding images began.
Sooooo many gorgeous details accompanied their day and you would never know that Sydney did most of her designs and creations herself {DIY Wedding!}. Each detail complimented the Bernardo Winery’s rustic and whimsical ambiance .
From the burlap accents to the baby’s breath flowers in the bridesmaid’s hair, her wedding was nothing short of a fairytale out of a wedding magazine.
Sydney + Matt, your love for each other is so sweet and true. Your families are so kind and soooo sweet! Thank you for the honor to capture your love story and for treating us so kindly as if we were one of your guests.
Congratulations again and we hope that your honeymoon in Kauai was magical. Xoxo, Patty

The selection of photos from Jen + Shane’s family session at the gorgeous Los Penasquitos Ranch House wasn’t easy, as they ALL were stunning. Since they both are admired and extremely talented photographers themselves, co-owners & husband + wife team at Acqua Photo, I had my work cut out for me! Their session actually turned out to be one of the most fun and beautiful family sessions to date (as you can see they are great in front of the camera – as well as behind!) Their Free-spirit nature and Jen’s “Free Spirit” wardrobe went perfectly with the rolling hills and growing grasses of Los Penasquitos Ranch House. Their daughter Nakoa, wore Jen’s very own toddler shoes when she was a little one which I thought was a perfect preservation of a family keepsake.
Thank you Jen, Shane and Nakoa for a relaxed, fun and sweet afternoon full of kisses and snuggles on frame! Xoxo, Patty
The Beverly Family is very special to us. They have four sweet, smart and amazing children and whenever we get together we eat Mexican food, (haha! I am just realizing this). Katie and I met at Jessica Claire workshop in Orange County in 2011. We sat next to each other in a cute room, filled with 12 internationally talented photographers hungry to learn more from Jessica. Unbeknownst to me, the gal sitting next to me lived 5 houses down from me in Carlsbad. That gal was Katie. Totally random. Totally cool. And totally grateful for meeting her that day.
So, when we are not photographing everyone else, we find some time to photograph each other’s families. We shot at Leo Carillo Ranch in Carlsbad California one evening and what you can see is perfection of the light and love around them. Props to her mom and sister for helping me out with some great assisting.
Katie, Mike and the mini-Bev’s, thank you for the honor of letting me photograph this time in your lives. I hope this is the first of many to come! Xoxo, Patty
We ALWAYS love to hear from you! Leave some love and we will love you back!
I always believe that everything happens for a reason, right? Danael & Tony came to me in a different way than usual {without going into detail, they decided to go with my photography services through another photographer’s mistake}. I am thankful for that {so sorry other person!} because means that I wouldn’t have met these two lovely souls. I am beyond thrilled for your wedding in May you two! And, thank you for trusting me to tell both or your stories with my camera.
With that said, EVERYTHING happens for a reason… Here is Danael’s story of how she met the love-of-her-life, Tony, on a night that she “wasn’t supposed to go out, bit DID!” . I thought that using her story instead of writing it would be better too.
Here is Danael’s story of how she met Tony: “March 6th, 2010… I had plans to go out to celebrate a friend’s birthday but it was a rainy day and I did not want to go out for that reason. I am notorious for making plans and then breaking them because of weather. Who wants to get their hair done, only to have it all messed up by the rain? Anyway, my best friend Liz said I just had to go because I had made that commitment to our friend. Right as we were leaving, the birthday boy sent me a message saying he had changed his mind and wanted us to meet at this other bar I had never heard of, El Dorado.
Once there, I mingled a bit and then decided to go to the bar to order a drink. There was a big board above the bar that listed all the drinks. To me, all those drinks had strange names and ingredients that one would use to make an omelette and not a drink. Not knowing what to order, I simply asked the bartender for a vodka soda. Suddenly, this guy that I had not noticed standing there said to me: “All these great drinks and you order a vodka soda? How boring!” and then walked away! I was appalled! Who was this jerk judging me by the drink I had ordered. But at the same time I thought, oh he is cute! Well, I got my drink and then went back to tell my friends that there was this cute guy and I wanted to find out if he was nice. I kept going back to order drinks for my friends because I wanted to run into this guy. My sister, who was also there that night, said that I kept taking drink orders from our friends but never went back with the drinks. Ha! Well, Tony and I chatted throughout the night. At the end, he asked for my number and I gave it to him. I also gave him my real name which I never really did before I met him. My sister and friends were surprised that I had given Tony my name and number because that’s just not my thing.
We always think about the “what-ifs”. What if I had decided to stay home instead? What if my friend had stuck to his original plan of going to a different bar? What if I had not given him my real name and number? We like to think it was fate.”
I love that I just got goosebumps from typing this!!! Congrats lovebirds, see you in May! xoxo, Patty

Sydney and Matt’s love story started when they were in high school. And, when they saw each other at a mutual friend’s BBQ, Matt asked Sydney out on a date. Completely flustered and caught off guard, Sydney entered the WRONG phone number in his list of numbers on his phone.
You know the dude digs you when he tracks down your digits from her friends! And, so Matt did just that. They had their ‘date’ and years later Matt and Sydney will tie-the-knot next month at a local winery.
These two were so giddy during their engagement session! Surrounding them were vibrant pops of terra-cotta and turquoise blue details throughout the ranch. Add the unexpected, meandering peacocks and heavenly light and you have yourself a memorable engagement photo shoot! Thank you Sydney + Matt for our fun afternoon ~ the best part was getting-to-know you and seeing your sweet love before your exciting day next month. I just can’t wait! Xoxo, Patty
