When Cheri wrote me to say that her daughter was desirous of a high school senior pictures, I was intrigued, as I have always wanted to photograph a senior portrait session… {This definitely isn’t your “Olan Mills” in-studio photo shoot.}
Her idea to take the family to an equestrian ranch in Ramona was perfect. A large piece of land, trees and texture equals gorgeousness and ample light. What we also got was Mariah’s beauty captured on film. Mariah is really just as sweet as she looks, extremely smart and she going to pursue nursing school next year. So cool!
We ended the evening with her mother and brother joining the shoot at sunset and it’s obvious that Cheri is one proud mother. Best of luck Mariah, and happy 18th birthday! Thank you for making the photo shoot so fun. xo

I always love to find out how my clients discover my business. It so happens that Jessica found Petula Pea Photography on Yelp! For those of you that know how it works, it can be a double-edged sword (in terms of their strange hostage of your reviews!). But in this case, Yelp worked out wonderfully for all of us.
Jessica’s most recent family photographer moved on to another business niche in photography, and I was lucky enough to fill that spot. Yeah! And, all from Yelp!
This is the family that you can just keep photographing, especially their perfectly behaved, carrot & grape-eating, book-reading angel, Coralynn. Yeah, she eats her vegetables! She was perfect and smiled, laughed and posed perfectly. It turns out that I get another shot with this family as Jessica is due with her 2nd child in March. Meeep!
Thank you Kirkendall family for the fun adventure this past September and I look forward to meeting your new addition next year. xo
I met Thanya at prenatal yoga when our little girls were still in our bellies.
Since then, we, and our babes have developed a special friendship. Alexandra loves her daughter, Madi! I actually couldn’t tell her that I was going to this photo shoot or else she would have shed some tears.
This is actually our second photo shoot and I was so honored and flattered that they asked me back again. How could you not want to photograph Madi when she gives you moves like she did below? Baby Brandon, you are snuggly soft and so sweet & I can’t wait to get to know you.
And, the BIG lollipop? Well, Thanya didn’t kill me when I suggested it and that is why I love her so much!
Thanya, Elbert, Madi and baby Brandon, thank you for letting me into your lives once again. You all mean so much to me!! Xo

When Ali came to me and asked about a family session, I was ecstatic. She had just moved here from Vancouver, Canada and she wanted a quintessential, California lifestyle photo shoot. How could I resist when that includes water, sand, a stand-up paddle board and an amazing family.
I have gotten to know Ali and Colin because they are my neighbors. They are the neighbors that you dream about, and the neighbors that you want for life! I will never forget one day when Ali first moved here, she dropped off chocolates and coconut water on my front doorstep because I wasn’t feeling well (I think this is when I first had Keaton and Alexandra -AND- Andy were both sick). I knew that she was a keeper {I mean, come on… coconut water, yeah!!}. Inevitably, I knew that I had a new, lifelong friend.
Thank you Ali, Colin and Waverly for the honor to create tangible keepsakes for your family, and most of all, thank you for your friendship. Xo, Patty
Her hair.. her dress… gahh!
The tide was so low this day that nature provided us with ripples in the sand. Just love!
I secretly want this photo of me and my babies. xo
Only in Southern California will you get warm water and warm evenings in October. I am guessing this is why they moved here from Canada.

Every once in a while, you meet a couple and their love story stays in your heart. Jackie and Tom have that story, and it proves true love can happen a second time around. Both of whom have been married before, Tom a widower. They were just so absolutely in love when I met them at their consult and their wedding was so, so sweet! Their family priest came and held a ‘Catholic-like” outdoor ceremony where her 3 sons walked her down the isle. I’m so excited to share this wedding with you but 1st, Jackie’s story in her words…
“We met while he was doing the remodel on my office. I always said I would never meet anyone at work but God does work in mysterious ways. We kind of laugh about it now. We both love the beach and running. We run by the beach as much as possible and actually ran by the land the Carlsbad Oceanfront Hilton sits on before it was built. We ran by it all the time!!! It just seemed natural that the Hilton Oceanfront would be the place we would get married. We both know how lucky we are that we met each other. It was certainly meant to be.
Thank you Jackie and Tom, I was so honored to make these memories for you at Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront | Cape Rey Carlsbad. I’m sooo happy for you both! Xo, Patty
